Celebrate Father’s Day with Luther Vandross’ Iconic Song

“Dance with My Father” is a 2003 release from Luther Vandross, the famed and well-respected Soul and R&B singer, songwriter, and producer. It was the lead single from his final studio album of the same name. Co-written with Richard Marx, who knows a thing or two about love songs, the song is a tribute to Vandross’ late father, who died when Luther was only seven years old. The music video is a collection of celebrity cameos that feature photographs from their own childhood. Due to health issues at the time, Vandross was not able to appear in this music video. The song won the 2004 Grammy Award for Song of the Year and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, fitting for what would become the last song he ever recorded. Vandross passed away in 2005.
